Images and videos

The photograph is a link, or it is a file on the computer. An agent can add either one to the team's Images or Videos library. It is the same library as the upload page, and it asks for the same Manage Media Assets permission. The page is still better when you want the grid.

What you can do

The photograph for Maya's homepage hero is a link. On the Images page she would download it, open the team, choose Upload, pick the file, and stay on that page until it finishes. From an agent she pastes the link and names the team. The file lands in the same Images library, with the same name she would have typed.

The page is the better door for some jobs. The agent is better for others.

  • Use the agent when the file is already a public link, or when you are already in the chat and the file is a path on this computer. You do not leave the conversation to find the upload page.
  • Use the Images or Videos page when you want the grid, when you are adding several files and want to watch each one, or when you are setting alt text while looking at the picture.

Videos are the same split. A short public clip can come from a link. A large file belongs on the computer path below, or on the Videos upload page. A poster is still a picture. It goes to Images.

The same library, the same permission

The agent does not get a side door. It acts as the RuleCMS account that signed in when you connected MCP.

View Media Assets can look at the library. Manage Media Assets can add a file. That is the same pair as the upload page. A teammate without Manage can open Images and still cannot add a file from the agent. Another team's library is refused, even if she can see the team name.

The limits are the upload page's limits. A picture can be up to 10 MB. A video can be up to 100 MB, and only on a plan that includes video. The team's storage allowance applies to both. Pictures are .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .webp, .svg, .bmp, .tiff, and .ico. Clips are .mp4, .webm, and .mov.

Ask AI in the composer is not this. It still cannot upload. It can use a file after this page, or the Images page, has put it in the library.

Add the photograph from a link

The designer's URL is public. Anyone with the link can fetch it, and it is not a file sitting only on Maya's laptop. She is signed in as herself, and she has Manage Media Assets on this team.

  1. Connect RuleCMS in the agent, if you have not. The steps are on MCP.
  2. Tell the agent the team, that this is an image, and the URL. A display name is optional. Up to five tags are optional. A tag is letters, digits, and hyphens.
  3. Wait for it to finish. RuleCMS fetches the URL. That fetch has to complete in about 20 seconds, so a large video should use the file on the computer instead.
  4. Open the team Images page. The photograph is there. In the composer, Select Image lists it. Nothing else about the hero has changed until she places it and publishes.

Say that a clip is a video. If the agent treats a video as an image, RuleCMS rejects it and removes the file. Ask again with video. The same is true the other way: a picture signed up as a video is removed.

Add a file from the computer

The photograph is on the laptop, not at a public URL. The upload page would be a file picker. The agent does the same job in three beats, and you can keep typing.

  1. Tell the agent the team, the file path, and whether it is an image or a video. The display name can be the file name.
  2. The agent asks RuleCMS for permission to upload that kind of file, then sends the file. A video has to be named as a video in this step. Guessing wrong is the rejection above.
  3. The agent tells RuleCMS the upload finished, using the id RuleCMS handed back. Until that happens, Images does not list the file. Asking again for a file that already landed returns the same file. It does not create a second copy.

The permission to upload expires after an hour. If the agent waits longer than that between the first beat and sending the file, start again.

Names you may see

You do not have to type these. They are the labels in the agent's tool list, if you open it. Each one still checks Manage Media Assets and the plan.

When it does not land

What you seeWhat it usually means
The agent says you cannot uploadThis account does not have Manage Media Assets on that team, or it is not a member. The upload page would say the same thing.
Image upload blocked, or video upload blockedThe team is over its storage allowance, the plan does not include video, or the file is over 10 MB for a picture or 100 MB for a clip.
The link was rejected, or it timed outThe URL is not public http or https, the file is not an allowed type, or the download took longer than about 20 seconds. Use the file on the computer for a large clip.
Images is still emptyA file from the computer was sent and not registered. Ask the agent to finish that upload. Do not send the file a second time.

The agent cannot remove a file. Add only what you want in the library.
